Louisianans are paying the price for continued legal system abuse by bad-faith actors. The time for reform is NOW.

The Problem
Why It Matters
What Needs to Happen

The continued abuse of the legal system has made the Louisiana insurance market highly challenging for consumers, local businesses, and insurers. According to the Insurance Research Council, Louisiana remains the least affordable state in the nation for auto and homeowners insurance. This is a direct result of natural disasters, economic conditions, and the state’s poor litigation environment.

Louisianans pay a hefty price for unchecked legal system abuse across the state. In the American Tort Reform Foundation’s 2024–2025 report, Louisiana was named the tenth worst “Judicial Hellhole” in the nation. According to the Institute for Legal Reform, Louisiana residents pay an annual tort tax—the cost of legal system abuse that gets passed down to taxpayers—of $4,389 per household, while the state loses more than 40,500 jobs each year as a result of legal system abuse.

Lawmakers in Baton Rouge should focus on passing meaningful reforms to address ongoing legal system abuse. Without action, this practice will continue to impact businesses, raise costs for families, and impose unnecessary tax burdens on everyday Louisianians. Lawmakers need to hear from you. Support transparency and accountability by urging them to support legal system abuse reforms.
