Post-Election Landscape

In 2018, Colorado turned blue when Democrats took control of all constitutional offices, the Senate, and House. Colorado’s blue wave continued with Democrats gaining seats in both the House and Senate. On statewide ballot measures, Colorado’s electorate showed its purple roots on ballot measures by passing a government-run paid family leave program along with a reduction in personal income tax and restrictions on the legislature’s ability to create new fees.

Impact on Colorado Consumers

  • As the legislature becomes more progressive, preserving a balanced court system will be an uphill battle in Colorado. Expansions of coverages and damage awards, including in response to Colorado’s wildfires, are expected in 2021.
