Help Protect California’s Economic Recovery from COVID-19

The California legislature will soon consider misguided legislation (AB 1552) that threatens the state’s economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. AB 1552 would retroactively rewrite insurance contracts to mandate coverage for COVID-19 losses that insurers did not agree to cover and for which they never collected premiums and policyholders did not pay.

This unprecedented move could create serious solvency issues and make it harder for California companies to get business insurance. This proposal also threatens insurers’ ability to protect consumers—both businesses and individuals—from losses caused each year by fires, storm damage, auto crashes, and other covered events.

Tell your lawmaker to focus on finding real solutions to assist California’s businesses—not undermine our economic recovery by retroactively rewriting insurance contracts. Please review and send a message to your lawmakers today.
